We’re lucky enough to live and work near some fabulous producers and wherever possible, we work alongside them to create dishes using the best from the land and the sea at every opportunity. No one is more aware of what’s fresh and in season than the people producing it – they are as much part of this business as we are.
Among the dishes that find their way onto the menu at The Ship are sauté of tiger prawns with sweet chilli & garlic butter with fregola pasta, warm baked goats cheese ‘mousseline’ with roast tomato vinaigrette and basil cream, warm leek & stilton tart, endive salad, walnut dressing plus various terrines and pates, plus other wonderful local items such as asparagus when in season. With the main courses you will find dishes such as sautéed liver with Lanes Farm Suffolk bacon and Lyonnaise potatoes, slow cooked belly of Blytheurgh pork with fondant potato, roast roots and apple and sage jus, a variety of roast and grilled local fish and, of course, that Ship Inn classic, the salmon and shrimp brochette with sweet chilli dip, wedges and sour cream. Elaine as ever will be creating such stunning creations as a banana tart tatin with rum and raisin ice cream, lemon posset with red berry coulis and short bread, pear, apple and rhubarb crumble, coffee panna cotta with chocolate sauce and chocolate sorbet plus many more. And this is just a few. We strive to create an ever changing menu at The Ship Inn to keep things interesting.
The philosophy behind our food is really quite simple: produce traditional classics, with our own ‘Ship Inn’ twist, that pay homage to the ingredients and are bursting with flavour. Having said that, we are not afraid to add a little bite to our dishes… Our culinary roots may be in British food and produce but we will, on occasion, add a little fresh coriander to our soups, a few chillis to our shrimps and some very good French wine to our sauces. As with all dishes at The Ship Inn, our desserts are made in house and are a special treat. Elaine, the Ship Inn’s very own pastry chef, has a very loyal and deserved following for producing some of the finest desserts in the area. It is always advised to leave a little space to try out Elaine’s handiwork.
Our wines are exclusively supplied by Bibendum wines and our wine consultant is no less than Willy Lebus, not only one of London’s leading wine gurus but also a local Suffolk lad himself. Willy was given clear instruction that The Ship wanted an exciting, varied and most definitely affordable wine list and it’s our opinion that he has achieved that in spades.
The Ship Inn, at Levington, Suffolk, is also proud to be able to offer a range of real ales from the barrel along with a selection of modern cask beers and fine wines.
Our beers are properly cellared and conditioned. The Ship's range of wines is impressive and sold either by the bottle or by the glass.
In winter drinks may be taken indoors by the log fire, in summer you might like to use our benches outside, or our patio area, or even our picnic area, though we would prefer you leave your glasses with us if you want to walk down to the river.
Adnams, who supply us with our real ales, are a world class brewery based in Southwold, Suffolk. Find out more here.
Adnams are very well known and respected in Suffolk and are known world wide by real ale connoisseurs.
Please drink responsibly and never whilst driving.
